I want you to succeed.  I will be available to help in my classroom 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after school.  I can be available at other times if needed.

POLICIES

Absences – You are expected to make up any missing work in 2 days.  If you miss a review day, you still must take the test on test day.  If you are absent for a school event, any homework assigned is due as usual.  Please get your homework before the event to avoid late work.

Late Work – I will give ½ credit for late assignments that are turned in within 5 days of the original due date.  Anything received later than 5 days is a 0.

Entering the Classroom -  During the first 5-10 minutes of class, students will turn in homework, and then login to IXL and begin working on an assigned lesson.  I give grades on IXL, so use this time wisely!

Homework – Homework is due at the beginning of the next class period.  If homework is not turned in during the first 5 minutes of class, it is considered late.  If you try to finish homework when you arrive to class the day it is due, it will be marked late.

Dismissal – I have an alarm that rings one minute prior to the bell.  You must work until the alarm sounds.  I will dismiss you from the classroom after the school bell has rung.

Phones/Electronic Devices – Phones will not be seen or heard during class.  If any phone is seen or heard during class, all phones will need to be turned in to me at the beginning of the period for the remainder of the year. There may be occasions when we will use phones in class.

Restrooms – If you need to use the restroom when you get to class, please check in with me so you won’t be counted tardy.  Class time is short so I discourage use of the restroom during class, however I understand emergencies.

Food & Drink – Food will only be allowed during designated snack times.  Please only bring nutritional snacks.  You may only have water in CLEAR containers.  No fancy cups that hide the contents, please!

GRADES

  • Homework – You will likely have homework every day because it is important to practice the skills we are learning each day we’re in class.  Most assignments will receive a grade.  Homework papers must have your name, date, page number, and the assigned problems written clearly in the upper right corner of the paper.  You must show me your work!  Even if a calculator is used, you must write down each of the steps in order to receive all the points for each problem.

  • Participation – Class participation is a necessary part of education.  Students will get approximately 25 participation points each week.  You earn participation points by coming to class on time with ALL your materials, having a charged Chromebook, following the classroom rules and policies, and participating in classroom activities.

  • IXL – I use IXL as a diagnostic, to see student’s abilities, as state test preparation, and I sometimes will assign an IXL lesson as homework.  I will take a grade on the daily use of IXL at the end of the quarter.  I will randomly choose 5 lessons and take the average score.  It’s worth 100 points.

  • Tests – Each chapter will have one test over all the chapter’s material.  The test points will vary depending on the amount of work needed.

  • Points – Every point is weighed equally so every point is equally important.  Doing homework, and getting all the participation points will ensure a passing grade.
